Country In Mourning After Terror Attack in Quebec Leaves 6 Dead, 8 Injured

Andrew Vaughan, The Canadian Press

A mass-shooting at a Quebec City Mosque has left 6 dead, 8 injured, and many in mourning. Canada's Prime Minister and law-enforcement agencies are treating this as a terrorist attack, as terror has no race or religion.

The six men left dead after the mass shooting in Quebec City had left their countries of origin in pursuit of better lives in Canada. Most of them had young children.

These are the victims:

Abdelkrim Hassane, 41, father of two young children, civil servant, government employed analyst-programmer, "peaceful, sensitive man.”

Mamadou Tanou Barry, 42, father of two, IT worker

Ibrahima Barry, 39, father of four, worked in health-insurance for Quebec.

Azzeddine Soufiane, 57, father of three, owned a halal grocery and butcher shop, known for helping newly arrived Muslims in the community.

Khaled Belkacemi, 60, professor at Laval University, obtained a master’s degree and doctorate in chemical engineering.

Aboubaker Thabti, 44, father of two, pharmacy worker. “So kind; everyone loves him – everyone.”

The shooter will not be named or shown here, as terrorists tend to seek fame and recognition that they do not deserve. This terrorist is white, twenty-something and native born. He's known online as a right-wing troll, sharing anti-foreigner, anti-feminist and Pro-President Donald Trump opinions.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer noted "it’s a terrible reminder of why we must remain vigilant, and why the President is taking steps to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to our nation’s safety and security.”

Right, so how do we stop native born terrorists?

Oh, he was talking about Trump's ban on entry to citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen). And suspending the admission of all refugees for 120 days, and for Syrians in particular, indefinitely.

So, is Spicer saying if we didn't let the Muslims in, they wouldn't have been murdered? No, that would be too ridiculous, right?

Meanwhile in Canada, vigils are being held across the country as we mourn this tragedy.

Rest In Peace
